About Demscore

DEMSCORE, short for "research infrastructure for Democracy, Environment, Migration, Social policy, Conflict, and Representation," is a collaborative effort involving some of the world’s leading research infrastructures and databases. The consortium is hosted by the University of Gothenburg, in partnership with Stockholm, Uppsala, and Umeå Universities. Together, we are creating a world-leading hub for contextual data, providing accessible data, documentation, and online visualization tools.

Demscore facilitates large-scale comparative analyses on the grand challenges of today’s societies, including those caused by population aging, rapidly changing migration patterns, increased social inequalities, accelerating globalization, recurrent financial crises, political deadlocks, violent conflict, and the rise of populism. The interdisciplinary nature of Demscore data is essential to advance adequate policy responses to such complex, and interrelated societal challenges facing Sweden, Europe, and the world today.

Internship Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and independent intern with a strong interest in data-driven research within the field of social science. The internship program has a duration of either 10 or 20 weeks and will take place at Demscore in the Department of Political Science at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.

Internship dates: 25 January 2027 to 11 June 2027.

Applicant Requirements

• Candidates must be a student currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s program that offers the opportunity to take an internship and intend to undertake this internship as an integral part of their academic curriculum, earning academic credits from their home university. The degree should be in Political Science, Global Studies, Data Science, Social Sciences, Economics, Statistics, IT, or a related field
• Good organizational, documentation, and communication skills, with strong attention to detail and a good command of written and spoken English. (Please note, English is the working language of Demscore).
  • In the spring, Demscore is planning a conference and interns will be expected to assist with organising and attending the conference.
• Good knowledge of social science research methods and concepts, particularly quantitative and comparative research, with an interest in how concepts are measured, operationalized, and harmonized across different datasets and research projects.
• Ability to work with social science datasets and documentation, such as codebooks, methodology documents, and variable descriptions.

Highly Advantageous:

• Familiarity with analysis tools, including R, SQL,and/or Git.
• Prior coursework in Quantitative Research Methods.
• Experience working with data from any of Demscore’s partner projects.
